Become a Dreamland Theater Volunteer

Volunteering at the Dreamland is an excellent and fun way to meet people who love cinema and the performing arts on Nantucket!

We seek friendly, outgoing volunteers to assist with day-to-day projects, ushering and other jobs .  We ask all of our volunteers to take personal responsibility to ensure that our patrons are treated with respect and have the best experience possible.

As a thank you to all of our volunteers, we provide complimentary tickets to our first run movie screenings as well as free popcorn and soda!

No experience is necessary in any of the following areas so please consider joining our volunteer team today!

Volunteer Opportunities

Stage Company Volunteer

If you love theater and children then this is a perfect fit for you.  The Dreamland is always looking for assistance with our ever-growing theater productions.  With over 150 plus students in our programs, we can always use a few extra hands when creating and crafting our props, costumes and sets!

Some Responsibilities Include:

  • Set Building
  • Props
  • Costume Construction
  • Flyer Distribution
  • Stage Hands…and more!

* Volunteers interested in working in stage company programming will be required to complete an additional background check.

Dreamland Special Events Volunteer

At the Dreamland we host a number of special events from live theater, music concerts, lectures, comedy shows and more.  Come be a part of Nantucket’s year-round film and performing arts center and be a part of history.

Some Responsibilities Include:

  • Greeting Guests
  • Check In
  • Selling Memberships & Merchandise
  • Ushering
  • Event Set Up & Break Down
  • Back Stage Assistance
  • Artist Transportation

Volunteer Associate

Volunteer associates are asked to prevent and eliminate distractions during screenings and special events.

Some Responsibilities Include:

  • Greeting Patrons
  • Assisting audience members to their seats
  • Eliminate distractions in the Theater (cell phone use, talking etc.)
  • Quickly walking through the theater after performances or screening to tidy up

Our Policies

Dress “The Part”

The Dreamland Theater has no prescribed dress code for our volunteers. We only ask that your dress “the part”, use the audience that will be attending the screening or event as your guide (no jeans please). We will supply a name tag when volunteering.

Bringing a Guest

Volunteers are not permitted to bring guests to screenings or events during their assigned hours.  If you would like to bring a guest, they may either sign up to volunteer or simply purchase a ticket to the screening or event.

Artist Privacy

During special events or performances volunteers are not permitted to disturb or interact with the guest artist(s). Volunteers are not allowed backstage or in the greenroom unless instructed by management. Proceeding the event or performance, volunteers may “meet & greet” the artist with other patrons in the main lobby if artist agrees. As a Dreamland volunteer, you represent the theater and we expect that you conduct and exchange any interaction with the artist with courtesy and professionalism.
