Dreamland Actors Company –  July 2nd – August 10th

Our most rigorous program for students 8 to 16  who possess a strong interest in the performing arts. Young artists hone their capabilities and strengths as performers over a five week rehearsal period, work with other talented students, and stage a full-scale musical production. This year, join in the fun of Disney’s High School Musical Jr.!

Dreamland Youth – Ages 9-16

Over the course of 5 days, Dreamland Youth will collaborate with each other and their teaching artist to bring a scripted show to the stage. Through the rehearsal process, students will investigate the world of theatre through exercises and games that activate both their physical instrument and their imaginations  as we prepare for our final performance on Friday!   Class meets Monday – Friday, 9am to noon at The Congregational Church Great Room – 62 Centre Street. 

 Week 1 – July 2nd-6th – Epic Tale of Beauty and the Beast

A poor widow has plucked a forbidden rose from the Beast’s garden, and he allows her to go free in exchange for Beauty staying with him. From there, you know the story, and this one is delightfully told complete with a battle scene that includes talking furniture. The story is familiar, but the lessons about the power of love and beauty that is more than skin deep never get old.

Week 2 – July 9th-13th – Rap-Punzel

Rap-Punzel is a tasty mix of fresh, action-packed humor and wholesome fun, drizzled with giggles and good times for all.

Week 3 – July 16th-20th – Charming!


Once upon a time, the Wicked Stepmothers’ Association, tried to get rid of all the frogs, but one frog escaped and became Prince Charming!

Week 4- July 23rd-27th  – Wishful Thinking

Weird things are happening in English class as the students are supposed to be studying for a quiz on The Monkey’s Paw, a classic short horror story about making wishes that tamper with fate.

Week 5 – July 30th -August 3rd –  Pan!

Everyone’s favorite Story of Peter Pan. You’ll meet the dog Nana, who can’t stop the Darling children from following Peter and Tinkerbell through the nursery open window to Neverland.

Week 6-August 6th-August 10th- The Whatsit

Whatsit has an uncanny ability to draw characters in, only to set them straight with quick and frank lessons in humility.  Referring to itself as a “spirit of mischief” and an “instrument of chaos,” the Whatsit delivers on both fronts, providing a wacky journey through time, full of pearls of wisdom good throughout the ages.

Dreamland Kids (Ages 5-8):

Over the course of 5 days, Dreamland Kids will create characters,  design costumes and props as they rehearse and perform adaptations of  beloved children’s stories!  Each week, we will bring a new tale  to life. To transition from storybook to script, campers explore theatre through games, improvisations and storyboarding as we prepare for our final performance.  Class meets Monday – Friday, 9am to noon in The Nantucket Dreamland Studio Theatre, 2nd Floor.

Week 1: The Magic Hat

Meet a magician and his magic hat – and the mayhem that ensues! Inspired by the by the book by author Mem Fox, students will work together to create the crazy and fun world of this magical tale.

Week 2: Hunwick’s Egg

Dates: July 9th-13th

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What does Hunwick know about a secret egg that has everyone else in his world perplexed?   Inspired by the work of author Mem Fox, campers will help the audience find out as they delve into the special world of Hunwick’s burrow – who knows what you might find!

 Week 3: Night Noises

Dates: July 16th-20th

 

 

 

 

 

What happens to Lily Laceby one wild winter evening, as she hears strange noises began to echo in the night?  This story by Mem Fox will help us create a  just a little spooky campfire tale for the young and young at heart!

 Week 4: Magic with Maury

Dates: July 23rd-27th

 

 

 

 

 

Inspired by the works of Maurice Sendak, students will connect  with and create characters as they cross paths with some of Sendak’s greatest stories.

 Week 5: One Morning on Nantucket

Dates: July 30th-August 3rd

 

 

 

 

Inspired by of Robert McCloskey’s famous One Morning in Maine, children will create the world of an original tale of their own favorite island.

 Week 6: The World of Doctor Seuss

Dates: August 6-August 10th

 

 

 

Spend a wonderful week with the characters of  Dr. Seuss! Campers will create art, characters and more as they explore The Lorax, Mr. Brown can Moo, Green Eggs and Ham, and more!

Broadway Dance

In partnership with Nantucket Music Center.

Shows such as Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen have changed the way we think about what choreography means on Broadway.  Taught by Dreamland Teaching Artists, both new and seasoned dancers will learn how to fully engage your body in safe and healthy movement while expanding your contemporary choreographic vocabulary.  Attend this dance class to broaden your scope of what new kinds of movement you can do! For experienced and new dancers, the class will ignite your spirit, soul and imagination.  $100.00.  Ages 9 and up.

Class meets July 9th – 27th: Monday and Wednesday sessions 10:00-11:30am

Prop Shop – The Visual Arts for Theater

A collaboration between AAN and The Nantucket Dreamland, this workshop gives participants a look a the the behind the scenes work of theatre. Each week’s class will work with the corresponding Dreamland Stage Company theatre camp and create props, set pieces and costumes for the final performance piece.

$110.00 – plus materials fee of $20.00
