The Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most popular and sought-after big band in the world today, and the only orchestra officially sanctioned by the Miller estate to carry the legendary bandleader’s name. Glenn Miller formed his original orchestra in 1937, and within two short years he had become the most successful recording artist in the world, with chart-topping hits including “Moonlight Serenade,” “In the Mood,” “String of Pearls,” “Little Brown Jug,” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo” — the first record ever to be certified gold. In 1942, at the height of his fame, Miller disbanded his civilian orchestra to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he led the legendary Army Air Force Band entertaining Allied troops in Europe. On December 15, 1944, Major Miller’s plane vanished over the English Channel en route to Paris; he was never seen again, leaving behind one of the most enduring musical legacies of the 20th century.
The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 with the blessing of the Miller estate and has been touring continuously ever since — performing nearly 300 live dates a year across the United States and around the world for total annual audiences of more than half a million. Today the 18-member ensemble is led by music director, tenor saxophonist, and vocalist Erik Stabnau, who took the baton in August 2021.
